如果，我們把藝術創作視為一種身分認同書寫的形式，那在原住民藝術家的創作中，總會找到明顯徵候。這意味著，當代原住民藝術創作者，他們總是有意無意的希望在創作中置入自己文化的文本。這種現象，它並不是僅僅滿足整體社會對原住民藝術家在形式上的期待，更多狀態可能是在原住民意識崛起後，藝術家在潛意識中，更將藝術作為一種自身文化、身份輪廓的書寫工具，當然，這種書寫的形式會隨著不同藝術家的創作，而產生各種奇異的閱讀樂趣。

如果，我們把藝術審美的思考，擺到一種文化與身分閱讀的視角，我們將會在這些當代原住民藝術創作者的作品中，讀到各種原住民對於自身文化認同與社會現況的反思訊號。在觀念大於形式的當代藝術世界中，這樣的思考將會開啟我們對原住民文化之於當代社會的各種關係想像。

2017臺灣原住民當代藝術特展，我們精選伊誕．巴瓦瓦隆、雷恩（古勒勒．雷拉登）、安聖惠（峨冷．魯魯安）、巴豪嵐‧吉嵐四位藝術家，分別從符號、媒體事件、故事文本、媒材、衍伸性創作..等不同的角度切入，創造屬於原住民自身觀看、創作藝術的觀點，也讓主流社會透過這些藝術創作所產生的徵候，更深度的來思考原住民與當代社會的關係。

If we treat artistic creation as a form of writing for identity, we may find vivid signs among the indigenous artists’ creations. It also suggests that the contemporary indigenous artists would insert the cultures of their own into their creations consciously or unconsciously. Such phenomenon not only fulfills the formal expectation of the overall society toward the indigenous artists, but further serves as a subconscious writing tool for artists to depicts the contours of their own culture and identity as the awareness of indigenous people has been awaken. This writing form no doubt shall yields peculiar reading delight in variety with the diverse creations of different artists.

If we situate the appreciation of art in the viewpoints of culture reading and identity reading, we shall read the reflective signals of various indigenous peoples toward their own cultural identities as well as the current social status from the artworks of these contemporary indigenous artists. In the contemporary world of art that concept precedes form, such way of thinking shall open up our imaginations toward the various relationships of indigenous culture versus contemporary society.

In 2017 Contemporary Art Exhibition of Taiwan Indigenous Peoples, we selected Etan Pavavalung, Kulele Ruladen, Eleng Luluan, and Chi-Lan Pa Hao Lan and probed from diverse angles of symbols, media events, story texts, mediums, derivative creations, etc. It aims to create a perspective of self-reflection and creative arts unique to the indigenous peoples, while allowing the mainstream society to contemplate in depth the relationship between the indigenous peoples and the contemporary society via the signs generated from these art pieces.
